Innocent driver killed in brutal Fontana crash was devoted father and Air Force veteran

Family and friends are mourning a man who was killed Wednesday in a serious crash in Fontana where a wanted suspect was fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers.

Richard Pshock was on his way to a doctor’s appointment when he was killed. He was at the intersection of Beech and Cherry Avenue when Noe Armando Banuelos struck Pshock’s Mustang with a Jeep Cherokee.

“You never think it could happen. He brightened up your life,” family friend Tianna Roman said.

Roman is still in shock after learning that Pshock, the man she admired since childhood, is dead.

“I’m sad that it’s him,” Roman said. “I’m glad that he’s at peace, and we know with our faith that we know that he’s where he needs to be.”

Dashcam video shows the Pshock entering the intersection as Banuelos flew by. The violent crash sent both vehicles onto the roadway.

“He was driving to a meeting with the VA just past the dead end … somebody just ran into him,” Roman said.

According to the CHP, 32-year-old Benuelos fled from officers after being stopped for speeding on Highway 15. During the stop, the officer learned that Banuelos had a federal warrant for his arrest.

Baneulos accelerated and went down the next exit, near the intersection where he collided with Pshock.

The 64-year-old died on the spot while Banuelos tried to escape.

Banuelos was caught and arrested by responding officers and taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. However, while there, he managed to escape.

“The suspect was being prepared for transport to the local jail,” said CHP Deputy Chief John Tyler. “At some point, the circumstances of which we are still investigating, the suspect fled.”

After the raid, Banuelos was rearrested, still wearing a paper hospital gown and handcuffs.

Pshock’s family and friends are counting on their strong faith to help them cope with their loss.

“That’s where we find comfort, that’s where we can’t be mad at that person, we can’t be mad that they took her away from us,” Roman said.

Pshock’s family said the retired Air Force veteran, actor and voice actor was preparing to celebrate his 44th wedding anniversary with his wife, Eleanna.

“He loved his family, he loved his daughters, he loved his grandson,” Roman said. “He was a devoted husband.”
