Separate late-night shootings in Minneapolis leave 1 dead, 2 injured

Minneapolis police said they are investigating two separate shootings — one of them fatal — that occurred about an hour apart late Wednesday night, continuing a string of shootings over the past seven days.

Police said two women were wounded in the first shooting, which occurred in the same area as another deadly shooting Tuesday night. Video footage taken by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS on Wednesday night showed the memorial still lit with flowers and candles as police began a new investigation. The footage also shows a car window being shot out.

Police say they were called to the area of Nicollet and East 19th Street around 10:30 p.m. There, officers found shell casings — so many that they ran out of numbered evidence markers and had to start using letters.

About an hour later, officers were called to the Elliot Park neighborhood for another shooting. Officers found a man in the area of 15th and Portland Avenue South who had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Minneapolis police say the shooting followed an argument and it is believed the suspect fled.

The man’s death marks the city’s fifth shooting homicide in the past five days. A full list of shootings over the past week can be found at the bottom of this article, as well as links to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS’ coverage of each incident.

“This is a level of tragedy that is incredibly disturbing. It’s unacceptable,” said Minneapolis police Sergeant Garrett Parten. “As you probably hear, every time something like this happens, families are torn apart.”

As of press time, no arrests have been made in connection with Wednesday night’s shooting. If you have any information that could help police, please contact CrimeStoppers.
