Villagers on alert: Jackal attacks in rural Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, villagers took matters into their own hands after a jackal attacked three people, including a child, on Wednesday evening. The incident took place in Kutulpur village, where the victims, Jitendra, his daughter Meenu and Ram Lakhan, were rushed to a hospital. The locals responded quickly by surrounding and killing the animal with sticks. The police later handed over the body to the forest department.

The latest incident is part of a disturbing pattern, as it marks the third killing of a jackal in just two days. On Tuesday, villagers in Hamirpur district killed a jackal that had entered a house and attacked several people. Similarly, on Wednesday, villagers in Khojpur village in Kaushambi district killed a jackal after it attacked three more people, including a child.

The situation has escalated, with concerns over suspected wolf attacks in and around Bahraich, where eight people have been killed and over 35 injured. In response, Uttar Pradesh Forest Minister Arun Saxena ordered the capture of the attacking animals. Also, nine gunmen have been deployed in the Bahraich forest on the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Amid the ongoing human-animal conflict in Mahasi tehsil of Bahraich district, the state government has declared the region as a “natural disaster” area.
