Rainy days Thursday to the end of the week, nice looking weekend shaping up

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – We had a scattering of activity across SWLA Wednesday, but Thursday looks to be the wetter day of the week.

Thursday is certainly looking more rain-filled, and we will likely see widespread showers and thunderstorm activity throughout the day. Rain showers will be on and off early, so it will be best to prepare for a wet morning commute. Even if we aren’t leaning too heavily towards thunderstorms, rain looks very likely and could occur at pretty much anytime of the day. So, you’ll want to keep the rain gear handy and probably spend more time indoors if you really want to stay dry. Remember you can always check active radar using the First Alert Weather App.

Temperatures for the day will run cooler with all the showers, largely landing in the low 80′s to even upper 70′s.

While the heaviest rains should remain offshore, a general 1-4 inches of rain may fall through Thursday night. Locally higher totals are always possible and the area likeliest to see such totals will be closer to the coastline where it’s not out of the question several inches of rain may fall between late Wednesday and Friday afternoon. This could result in localized areas of street flooding, and a Flood Watch has been issued for parishes along I-10 and further south until Friday at 7 PM.

By the weekend, it looks like a cold front will move through SWLA. This will send much drier air into SWLA by Saturday as well as some cooler weather too! The days this weekend still look warm, with highs in the mid 90’s expected. However, that will come with a reduction in humidity and lows over the weekend should fall into the 60’s. If everything plays out right, a few areas may see upper 50’s waking up early Monday morning.

In the tropics, there are no active systems at this moment. However, we continue to watch a disorganized tropical wave moving across the Caribbean this week. But the odds of it developing at all have decreased. And even if it does the incoming cold front would likely keep it well south of our area. The same goes for a trough of low pressure along the gulf coast, which looks to just give us some heavy rain for the next day or so.

There are a few other areas much farther out over the Atlantic Ocean, but those do not pose a threat to SWLA at this time.
