Bride and Groom Charged Over Best Man’s Death After Wedding

FLINT, MI – A bride and groom are facing charges in the death of their best man, who was seriously injured in a crash that happened just hours after their wedding.

Flint police said the groom plowed his SUV into his best man, 29-year-old Terry Lewis Taylor Jr., shortly after their wedding on Friday, Aug. 30.

The groom, James Shirah, 22, was charged with second-degree murder and held without bail. His fiancée, Savahna Collier, 21, was charged with accessory after the fact. Her bail was set at $4,000.

Flint police responded to a report of a pedestrian who was injured in a crash in the 1400 block of East Hamilton Avenue, near Lewis Street, around 8 p.m. Friday.

Taylor was taken to Hurley Medical Center, where he died.

The investigation revealed that the groom and the best man had an argument after the wedding.

The argument led to the victim “being intentionally hit by a large SUV traveling at a high rate of speed driven by the groom,” Flint police said on Facebook.
