24-year-old suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Mid-City mother of four

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans police have arrested 24-year-old Chante Mark in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Raven Marie Francis.

The crime occurred on September 1, just before 3 a.m., near the intersection of Baudin and South Solomon streets.

According to reports, the incident stemmed from a large fight in the parking lot of the Shamrock Bar and Grill on South Carrollton Avenue.

According to police, Francis and four other women were involved in a fight during a night out. As they were leaving, someone opened fire on their vehicle. The group tried to flee, but the car hit a fire hydrant and overturned near an intersection, and Francis later died in hospital. The conditions of the other four women involved were not disclosed at the time of the police report.

However, Trina Francis, Raven’s mother, disputed parts of the police version of events in an interview with Fox 8. She said there were only four women involved in the incident — her three daughters and their friend. She said Raven was shot in the head and killed, while one of her sisters was grazed by a bullet and the other two women were injured in a car accident, not in the shooting.

Detectives identified Mark as a suspect, which led to an arrest warrant being issued.

Mark was arrested at a hotel in Chalmette and is currently being held at the St. Bernard Parish Prison as a fugitive from Orleans Parish.

Police say there may be additional arrests as the investigation continues.
