Two people died Tuesday in a crash northwest of Scottsbluff.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNOP) – The Scottsbluff Police Department has identified the two victims killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday.

According to police, the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 26 and Avenue I around 3:30 p.m. A Nissan Versa was turning north from Highway 26 onto Avenue I when it collided with a westbound Mazda pickup truck.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan, later identified as Buford Williams, 88, and Benita Williams, 81, both of Scottsbluff, were taken to Regional West Medical Center where they died from their injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 74-year-old man from Mitchell, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital.

It is believed that all persons involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.

Investigations are ongoing to reconstruct the crash. Updated results will be released at a later date.

Assisting in the Scottsbluff Police Department response were the Nebraska State Police, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Valley Ambulance Services and the Scottsbluff Fire Department.
