Child dies after dog attack in Newark, NJ

NEWARK, New Jersey – A child died after being attacked by a dog in Newark, authorities said.

It happened just before 7pm on Tuesday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim – an 18-month-old girl – died after being attacked by a dog in a home on 2nd Avenue.

According to law enforcement sources, the child was being cared for by a teenager at the time of the horrific attack.

Newark Animal Control took two dogs from the home. It is unclear if both dogs were involved in the attack.

The child was taken to University Hospital, but did not survive.

There is a “Beware of Dog” sign outside the house.

“Pit bull attacked child”

The authorities have not been able to interview the family because they are extremely nervous.

One resident said there was a large number of police on the street.

“A pit bull attacked a child,” Kawhon Jahnye said.

The case is being investigated by Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
