Bhim Kohli: Grandfather attacked in park on Leicester outskirts – four of five children arrested for ‘murder’ released | UK News

Four of the five children arrested on suspicion of murdering an 80-year-old man have now been released.

The youths have been detained following the death of Bhim Kohli, who was attacked in a park in Braunstone Town, on the outskirts of Leicester.

Mr Kohli, who was walking his dog in Franklin Park, was seriously attacked on Sunday and died in hospital on Monday evening.

An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a neck injury; further tests are imminent.

Leicestershire Police said Tuesday they had launched a murder investigation and arrested a boy and a girl, both aged 14, as well as two girls and a boy, all aged 12.

Police officers later said the 14-year-old boy was still in custody, while the other four were released without further action.

The attack occurred at around 6.30pm on Sunday at the entrance to Franklin Park in Bramble Way.

Mr Kohli is believed to be wearing a black jumper and grey tracksuit bottoms.

“A very good man”

A neighbour and friend of Mr Kohli, who gave his name as Deep, told Sky News that Mr Kohli was “a very good man, very quiet and very cheerful”.

He added: “I never had any problems, I never heard anything, shouting, nothing like that. Yes, he was a family man, he was a very nice man.

“What happened is truly shocking. I never thought it would happen. It’s a crowded park.”

Victim: Father of three and grandfather

Deep also added that Mr Kohli was originally from India and had been living in the UK for decades.

He had three children and grandchildren. He was described as “very fit” and spent a lot of time on his plot of land.

The victim’s daughter told LeicestershireLive on Monday that she found him lying on the ground after hearing noises behind the house.

She added that her father was “seconds” away from the house when the attack occurred.

“He was lying under a tree and at first he complained of neck pain, but now he can’t move his legs,” she said.

The woman, who did not give her name, said Mr Kohli was taken to hospital in Nottingham with spinal injuries and was due to undergo surgery.

The market town of Braunstone is situated approximately 4 km south-west of Leicester city centre.

Police are still working at the scene and are appealing for witness statements.

Police appeal in case of “group of young people”

“We still need anyone who was in the area who saw anything or has any information that could help,” Detective Inspector Emma Matts said.

“Were you in the Franklin Park or Bramble Way area on Sunday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m.?

“Did you see the attack itself? Based on the description you gave, did you see the victim before the incident or a group of young people leaving the area afterward?”
