Liverpool and Chelsea to be put on alert after latest Marc Guehi development at Crystal Palace

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Chelsea to be put on alert after the latest development involving Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace.

The Reds sit second in the Premier League after an inspired start to proceedings, while Newcastle sit fifth and Chelsea find themselves all the way down in 11th.

Out of the three sides, Chelsea have done by far the most transfer business with Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall just some of their highlights.

Liverpool have been clever with their buys as Giorgio Mamardashvili is very much one for the future having stayed on loan at Valencia, and Federico Chiesa was a bargain buy.

Eddie Howe wasn’t as fortunate with his late dealings in the summer, despite still making five signings, as Crystal Palace shut down a late deadline move from Newcastle for Marc Guehi.

However, it now looks as if these three sides are now on red alert after a recent development…

Marc Guehi conducted himself like a true professional throughout the summer transfer window and was rewarded with the captain’s armband.

After the departure Joachim Andersen and an injury to Chadi Riad, Steve Parish was keen to hold onto Guehi despite Newcastle pushing throughout the transfer window.

However, it now appears as if Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool will have the chance to sign him either in January or at the end of the season.

TalkSPORT has been told Guehi is in no rush to extend contract, which expires at the end of next season.

Not only does that open the door for Newcastle to return with a fresh offer, but will put the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea on alert.

Who needs Marc Guehi the most?

Liverpool already have the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate and Jarell Quansah all fighting to be in the center-back pairing at Anfield.

However, the Van Dijk’s contract situation is up in the air and three quality centre-backs really isn’t enough cover when you’re playing Champions League football too.

Chelsea currently have Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashille, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo at their disposal, so there’s no urgent need for a center-back.

Newcastle are a side in need of a top level centre-back, hence why they tried to sign Guehi.

Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Lloyd Kelly and Jamaal Lascelles are the current options at Eddie Howe’s disposal, but you wouldn’t say any of them are world-class apart from possibly Botman.

The Magpies could still sign Guehi on a free transfer but another January approach could be forthcoming with Palace possibly looking to cash in and Newcastle still needing a center-back addition.
