Weather update: Parts of Punjab and UT of Chandigarh received heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning, providing much-needed relief from the humid environment.

However, the rainfall disrupted life in several districts of Punjab, including Jalandhar and Ludhiana, as streets were flooded. Ludhiana received 11.2 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in some areas. Long queues of vehicles were seen at many places after the rain. The weather is likely to remain cloudy in the next 24 hours, with a risk of moderate thundershowers in Ludhiana and its surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, several hours of rain on Tuesday evening worsened Jalandhar’s flooding problem, once again flooding major highways and streets. The worst hit was Central Town, where knee-deep water covered roads and poured into shops, stranding commuters and visitors for hours.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Punjab, along with Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, western Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and northeastern India due to the expected heavy rainfall.
