Police identify 20-year-old woman killed in June crash on Hawaii island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police on Monday identified the pedestrian killed in a crash in June.

The victim was identified as 20-year-old Densiann Denno of Hilo.

Authorities say they were not notified of the victim’s death and only recently learned the information as part of an ongoing investigation.

The accident occurred on June 23 at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Highway 130.

Authorities said the SUV was traveling northwest on Highway 130 when it struck Denno in the median near Orchidland Drive.

Investigators said it was raining at the time of the accident and visibility was limited.

The driver was not injured, but Denno was unconscious when he arrived at the scene.

Police said Denno was initially taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center before being medically transported to Queens Medical Center in critical condition.

Authorities later learned that Denno had died on June 25.

An autopsy was performed at Queens Medical Center, but Hawaii Island police said they were still waiting for the results.

Police do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the accident.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Officer Laurence Davis at (808) 961-2339 or [email protected].

This is the 22nd road fatality in Hawaii this year, up from 12 during the same period last year.

The investigation is ongoing.
