Man arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing woman

San Jose police arrested a 19-year-old San Bernardino County resident in February on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman, according to a news release from the department.

Authorities said that around 2:55 a.m. on Feb. 24, a woman checked herself into a local hospital and reported being a victim of sexual assault. Police said the woman told officers that a few hours earlier, she was sitting in her car in the area of Camden Avenue and Lancaster Drive when she was approached by an unknown man who sexually assaulted her.

An investigation by the SJPD Sexual Assault Investigations Unit identified Julio Cesar Cortez, 19, as the suspect. Authorities released no further information Tuesday about how Cortez was identified as the suspect or about the alleged crime.

Cortez was arrested in San Bernardino on Aug. 6 by San Bernardino police. He was taken to San Jose on Aug. 11 and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on sexual abuse charges, police said. He is being held without bail.
