DUI, fleeing charged after high-speed chase that ended in Sarver – Butler Eagle

An Allegheny County man has been charged with driving under the influence and fleeing state police after he allegedly led police on a chase on Route 28 from Tarentum to Sarver on Monday, Sept. 2, driving at speeds of 95 mph.

James O. Anderson Jr., 46, of McKees Rocks, was charged Tuesday, Sept. 3, with fleeing or attempting to elude police and arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 21 traffic violations.

According to the affidavit, state police at Kittanning spotted a car traveling north on Route 28 near the Tarentum exit just before 3 a.m. and discovered there were registration and insurance issues with the vehicle. They attempted to pull the car over.

According to the affidavit, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and the driver failed to stop at a stop sign or red light, failed to use his turn signal, drove in a single lane, made an illegal U-turn on the concrete median and reached speeds in excess of 95 miles per hour.

According to witness statements, police applied a restraining maneuver just north of the Sarver exit in Buffalo Parish, and the car entered the median where Anderson fled on foot.

Anderson crossed Route 28 north into a heavily wooded area but was apprehended a short time later. Police said he smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, admitted to drinking and said he had taken too many pills, according to the affidavit.
