Teen accused of stealing memorabilia from Rick Pitino’s office

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of stealing memorabilia during a botched raid last month at the office of legendary St. John’s University basketball coach Rick Pitino, authorities said Tuesday.

According to police sources, the 17-year-old gunman turned himself in to police for his brazen role in the bizarre robbery that took place on August 20, weeks after his alleged accomplice and Long Island City neighbor, Emanuel Yakubov, 25, was detained by police.

The young man, whose name police did not release due to his age, was charged with breaking and entering Pitino’s office, where they allegedly stole a ceremonial dagger and a megaphone.

They were also accused of stealing several bottles of alcohol, a mask and a signed basketball.

Footage of the attack shows the teenager talking on a cellphone while holding a megaphone in the hallway of the Carnesecca Arena, and walking alongside his fellow gunman, who is holding a dagger.

According to the recording, neither of them tried to hide their identity.

The coach’s office is located above the basketball court, sources previously told The Post.

Police sources on Tuesday also said a 12-year-old boy may have been involved in the crime, but police are unsure of his role and have not yet been able to find him.

Jakubow was caught several days after the attack, and when confronted by a Washington Post reporter, he denied committing a crime.

“I didn’t bring a basketball,” the 25-year-old said as he was led into a Queens Criminal Court hearing to face charges of receiving stolen property, trespassing, petty theft and burglary.

He also appeared confused when his lawyer highlighted his ties to the community and argued during the hearing that he had no prior arrests.

“What do you mean I haven’t been arrested before?” he was overheard telling his lawyer after his questioning.

Meanwhile, Pitino, who previously coached the NBA Knicks, joked about the stolen alcohol after the robbery.

“I’m really nervous!” he wrote on X.
