UPDATE: Car crashes into tree, building in Rochester Tuesday morning – ABC 6 News

The ABC 6 news team brings you the latest local, regional and national news, as well as the latest sports, weather and traffic information.

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Police have identified the driver of a white SUV that crashed into an apartment building at Valleyhigh Dr. NW and 15th St. NW as 39-year-old Brian Cain of Rochester.

While the exact cause of this particular accident has not yet been revealed, residents of the area say the accident is yet another example of how dangerous this stretch of road can be.

At approximately 7:15 a.m., Christina Wevley and her son Andre heard screeching tires and a loud bang that could only mean one thing.

“My kids knew it was an accident as soon as they heard the tires,” Wevley said.

At the same time, across the street, Tamra Losinski was letting her dogs out when she saw a white car drive by and a few seconds later heard the same loud bang.

Something she had seen many times in her 25 years of living in the area.

“Over the years, road traffic volume has increased significantly and the number of accidents has increased significantly,” she added.

The car in question veered off the road, flew across a small parking lot, collided with a parked car, a tree, and finally hit the corner of the building’s bottom floor, falling into the tenant’s bedroom.

Wevley and her son were among the first to arrive at the scene.

In a video posted on Christina’s Facebook page, Andre can be seen trying to rip off the door to get the unconscious driver out of the vehicle.

Elsewhere, neighbors try to break down doors with sledgehammers before rescuers arrive.

There have been similar accidents in this area before.

Two years ago, another driver veered off the road, hitting a family member’s car parked in Wevley’s driveway.

“I got hit by (a family member’s) car and it hit me and the other car went over my head and destroyed my neighbor’s house and landed upside down in his house,” Wevley said.

Losinski saw even more.

“The fence on the corner has been removed so many times that they won’t even put up a privacy fence,” she said. “There are so many accidents at the three-way intersection because it’s so confusing how to stop and how to navigate that intersection.”

It’s a threat that everyone lives in constant fear of, especially those who have families.

“My kids have seen me hurt myself,” Wevley said. “They don’t even like me being in charge. One of my sons told me he was ready to move.”

And that’s something that’s hard to deal with.

“I’m so scared that when my granddaughter finishes school and goes to my house, she’ll be safe,” Losinski said.

The driver’s health condition remains unknown.
