Ricky Pearsall Shooting Suspect Charged – NBC New York

The 17-year-old suspect in the shooting death of 49ers rookie quarterback Ricky Pearsall during an attempted robbery in San Francisco last Saturday has been charged with attempted murder, the district attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said the unidentified suspect also is charged with assault with a semiautomatic weapon and attempted robbery.

Jenkins added that the charges will be filed in juvenile court.

“Under California law, the district attorney can no longer bring these charges against a juvenile in adult court,” she said. “The only mechanism is to file a motion for a transfer hearing, which requires a judge to rule on the juvenile’s fitness to be transferred to adult court, which essentially means the juvenile system will not be equipped to rehabilitate the juvenile. My office will review the case further in the future to determine whether we will seek a fitness hearing.”

The suspect was scheduled for a hearing Wednesday afternoon, Jenkins said.

Pearsall, meanwhile, is recovering after being shot in the chest, 49ers general manager John Lynch said Tuesday.

“He’s doing great,” Lynch said. “He feels a lot better today than he did yesterday. It’s really, really a miracle. He didn’t touch any organs. The nerves seem to be fine. I mean, it’s pretty amazing.”

Pearsall will miss at least the first four games of the season after being placed on the non-football injured list.
