One person taken to hospital after crash in Norfolk city centre | News

One person was taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision in central Norfolk on Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:44 p.m., Norfolk Police Division and Norfolk Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the intersection of Fourth Street and Madison Avenue in reference to a two-vehicle crash that involved fatal injuries, said Norfolk Police Lt. Josh Bauermeister. The crash involved a pickup truck and a minivan, with one person in each vehicle.

Bauermeister said the pickup truck was traveling north on Fourth Street and the minivan was traveling west on Madison Avenue when it appears one of the vehicles ran a red light, causing the collision. If further investigation determines which vehicle ran the red light, that driver will be issued a ticket for a stoplight violation, the lieutenant said.

The driver of the minivan was taken to Faith Regional Health Services with injuries that were not life-threatening, Bauermeister said. The driver of the pickup truck declined medical transport.

Both vehicles were considered totaled. The vehicles came to rest near a light pole and the Norfolk Good Neighbors building, but Bauermeister said no property was damaged beyond the vehicles involved.

The scene was cleared just before 4:30 p.m.
