Rest In Peace Obi Ndefo: Dawson’s Creek actor who lost his legs in a car accident dies at 51

Actor Obi Ndefo, who was the victim of a road accident in 2019 in which the perpetrator fled the scene, died last Wednesday (August 28) Diversity reports. He was 51 years old.

According to reports, the late actor’s sister, Nkem Ndefo, shared the news in an initial Facebook post on Saturday (August 31) and then revealed further details about his death on Monday (September 2).

“Obi Ndefo died early Wednesday morning at a Los Angeles hospital,” she wrote. “Sadly, Obi’s heart failed amid his long-standing battle with eating disorder, orthorexia.”

She emphasized her intention in sharing the news of his death — specifically, “to bring awareness to the seriousness of orthorexia and to hope that those living with this devastating disease receive the compassionate care they deserve” — and encouraged those interested in honoring Obi to make a donation in his name to the National Eating Disorders Association.

As he noticed DiversityNdefo lost both of his legs in 2019 after a car accident in a parking lot in Los Angeles. During an interview with Los Angeles Times that same year he said: “What happened to me is just awful, why would I make it worse by feeling bad about it?”

“I didn’t even have to choose a positive attitude,” he added.

According to IMDb, Ndefo’s first television appearance was in a 1995 episode of the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Ndefo had a 10-episode series Dawson’s Cove as Bodie Wells, which began in Season 1 and continued for several seasons.

Ndefo’s other television credits include: The Wayans Brothers., The Jamie Foxx Show, Third Rock from the Sun, Angel, Star Trek: Voyager, District, Crossing the Jordan, NYPD blue, Half and half, West Winga six-part episode in Stargate SG-1, Beauty and the BallerinaAND NCIS: Los Angeles.

According to TheWrap, Dawson’s Cove alumni Mary-Margaret Humes and Katie Holmes paid tribute to Ndefo on Instagram. On her Instagram Story, Holmes noted that he was “so wonderful to work with and such a nice person.”

“Sending prayers and grace to his family,” she added. “Rest in peace.”
