Woman struck and killed near cemetery

The body of a woman fatally injured by a hit-and-run driver in Springfield on Monday landed in a nearby cemetery from the impact of the crash, police said Tuesday.

The woman was walking near the intersection of Boston Road and Berkshire Avenue around 7:45 pm when she was struck, police said in a statement,

“Due to the impact from the crash, the adult female pedestrian who was struck was located on the property of a nearby cemetery,” police wrote. “She succumbed to her injuries on scene.”

Police did not release her name or age.

Nathan O. Colon, 18, was taken into custody around 9:10 pm on Lakvilla Avenue. Police did not say how investigators linked Colon to the crash.

He was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash causing death and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation. He is scheduled to be arrayed in Springfield District Court on Tuesday, police said.
