Springfield Police Arrest Man in Fatal Car Accident

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) — The Springfield Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run.

On Monday at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of ​​Boston Road and Berkshire Avenue in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian.

When police arrived at the scene, the driver was not there.

As a result of hitting the ground, the adult female pedestrian was found in a nearby cemetery.

She died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

The Springfield Police Department Traffic Division began an investigation and gathered information about the suspect.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., officers located the suspect in the 0-100 block of Lakevilla Avenue and arrested him.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Springfield Police Department Traffic Division in cooperation with the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.

Nathan Colon, 18, of Springfield, is charged with:

  • Leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and death
  • Murder by motor vehicle by reckless operation

Colon will be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
