Armed men storm Yobe community, kill many, burn houses and shops

A group of armed assailants suspected of being members of the Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the village of Mafa, located near Shekau, the hometown of the late Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in Yobe State.

It was gathered that the perpetrators entered a village located in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, killing many people and burning several houses.

INFORMATION NIGERIA learned that the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday at around 4:00 p.m. when residents were returning from their farms.

Police spokesman DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed the attack to reporters on Monday, said information about the attack was still sketchy.

He said: “We are yet to ascertain the death toll in the incident, which occurred around 4pm on Sunday in a remote village.

“Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, both residents of Mafa, reported the incident at the Tarmuwa Police Station.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists armed with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades attacked the Mafa district on more than 50 motorcycles and set fire to several shops and houses.

“The terrorists also killed many people, but so far we have not been able to establish the exact number of victims.”
